Dallas – Fort Worth Spurs

Exclusive Interview!  6 Burning Questions with Red Robbins

Q:  OK, the hardest thing to do in sports is repeat.  Is DFW poised to make another run at the title?

A: We are ready and looking forward to defending the title, however after that being sad, we realize it will be very difficult.  When you are lucky enough to win the Series it usually means you get a lot breaks and a lot of things go your way.  It did for us in '07.  This being '08 there are 15 other teams trying to knock us off.

Q:  What do you think your team’s strengths and weaknesses are?

A: Veteran leadership in Bonds, KG Jr., Derek Lee  go a long way.  Starting pitching has always been our Achilles heel.

Q:  Will 2008 be the Barry retirement tour?  How does the DFW management deal with all that goes along with being Barry’s boss what with all the special requests, alleged surliness and that little steroid issue?

A: Gosh I hope not.  Look Barry and I have a great relationship.  He has never given me a hard time.  He still has that twinkle in his eyes that he had when he had that skinny little head back in the early 90's!  I know for a fact that the only thing I seen him do is Sun Flower seeds.  All the other things I have heard him use I have no idea about that

Q:  What player on your team are you the most excited about when looking at the next five years, and why?

A: Derek Lee was about to bust out and then broke his wrist.  I  look for Derek, V-Mart, Travis Hafner to put up some really great numbers.  Francisco Rodriquez is just reaching his prime!

Q:  Between Barry, Ken Griffey, Jr. and Greg Maddux you could start your own NASBL Hall of Fame team.  What’s it been like having those three on your roster, what have they passed on to the team’s younger stars like Victor Martinez and K-Rod?

This biggest thing is work ethic.  Younger players see the 'old folks' working their ass off everyday and they have over 60 years of MLB experience.

Q:  What do you enjoy to most about NASBL?

A: The friendship that I have made with fellow managers, the friendly competition and the love of a kid game (Strat-O-Matic) that keeps you young at heart!!
